#1 Locks
In every tenant transition, we change the locks because we never know who the previous tenants gave a copy of their keys. We don’t want them to access the units of incoming residents. Also, we’ve seen properties with old locks or with aged and worn-down keys. When keys get old, sometimes they don’t fit right, especially with some of the older doors in Boston. People start struggling to get into their own homes, and we don’t want that for any of our residents.
#2 Lighting
Adequate lighting is a must. ln areas such as basements or attics without proper lighting, you could have slips and falls. As people can’t see where they’re going, they could fall down a set of stairs and they can also file a huge lawsuit against you. Your residents should be able to walk around and feel safe wherever they are during nighttime. They should also feel relieved that nobody is hiding somewhere that could potentially cause harm to them. Your lighting should be bright to ensure there are no dark corners.
#3 Landings
Landings involve a lot of details and getting them all right is bound to ensure tenants’ safety at any property. Anything from patios to decks to stairways to walkways, we make sure the handrails are tight. The masonry of the steps should be solid, with no slip-and-fall hazards to it. There must be no uneven ground. Moreover, the decks and patios should not be shaky. You don’t want any untoward incidents to occur due to lack of maintenance.
