 Neighborhood

With the rise in burglary and criminal trespass cases in Massachusetts, tenants’ safety should be the landlord and property manager’s utmost priority.

#1  Locks

Every tenant transition, we try to change the locks because we never know who the previous tenants gave a copy of their keys. We don’t want them to access the units of incoming residents. When we change the locks, we also make sure that they’re functioning.  We’ve seen properties with old locks, keys get aged and worn down, and people start struggling getting into their own house. When they get old sometimes they don’t fit right, especially with some of the older doors that we have in Boston.

#2 Lighting

ln areas such as basements or addicts without proper lighting, you could have slip and falls. As people can’t see where they’re going, they could fall down a set of stairs, and they can have a huge lawsuit against you. Your residents should be able to walk around and feel safe wherever they are during night time, and to know that there is nobody hiding around a corner that could be able to potentially cause harm to them. Your lighting should be bright and there are no corners of darkness.

#3 Landings

Anything from patios to decks to stairways to walkways, we will make sure handrails are tight. We will make sure that masonry of steps is solid and there’s no slip and fall hazards of it. There’s no uneven ground, and decks and patios are not shaky. You don’t want incidents to occur due to lack of maintenance.

So as a brief overview, those are three Ls to make sure that your tenants are safe at your property. If you or anyone else you know is looking for a property manager that’s always proactively thinking to make sure that you and your tenants are properly protected, please think of Green Ocean Property Management, where you get more than a property manager, you get peace of mind.
