Heat and AC Zones Guide: Why Having Multiple Zones Benefit the Tenants
Reading Time: 2 minutes

In a rental property with multiple rooms, a zoned home is a must as different family members have different comfort levels. Here’s  Green Ocean’s Heat and AC Zone Guide to familiarize yourself with the benefits of having multiple zones.

What is a zone?

A zone is a different section of the actual building that has a separate control for thermostat and that means that you might have a basement that might be your zone one, a second floor that’s your zone two, and even an attic that could be zone three. They call these different zones because there are different sections of the house that allow it to be controlled.

Can you have one heating system with multiple zones?

Yes, you can. In addition, there are some houses that actually have different heating systems or even different types for different floors. You might have electric heat on a third floor and you might have gas on the second and first.

At the end of the day, you’re going to want to know how many zones your house has so you can also inform the tenants. It’s really important when a tenant moves in, they’re able to know how to control both the heat and the AC within their unit more efficiently. If they don’t use the basement that much and they know it’s in a separate zone, they turn it down.

With that being said, you always want to be careful especially during the winter months, to make sure that they have a minimum amount of heat set just in case to avoid any types of freezing of water pipes and burst, and issues within your property.

If you or anyone else you know, is looking for proactive property managers to be able to help guide and explain different situations such as heating and AC zones, please think of a Green Ocean Property Management, where you get more than a property manager, you get peace of mind.
