How It’s Done: Water Mitigation

Nobody likes waterfloods. Unfortunately, if that happens, you don’t know which is more annoying: cleaning up and drying out everything that got wet or dealing with the insurance company to justify the work that needs to get done. Here, we talk all about those and how we do water mitigation at Green Ocean Property Management.

What To Do First

How We Do Water Mitigation

The first thing that you should do – and we do this in-house – is dry out anything that got wet. This includes floors, carpets, and walls. We bring in fans and dehumidifiers to dry out anything that we can save. Hopefully, it includes the wood and insulation because if not, there is the risk of mold growing behind your walls or underneath your floors – your hardwood floors will buckle – leading to more damage and repairs in the future.

How Moisture Meters Help With Water Mitigation

Water Mitigation: How Moisture Meters Help

An insurance company will require that you actually have meter readings. Meter readings will allow you to say that something is, in fact, wet. Insurance companies need and want proof because they have to pay you for it.

That is why at Green Ocean Property Management, each one of our staff carries this little moisture meter. We consider it a must-have item for how we do water mitigation. There is a couple of prongs that you stick into the wall. Also, there are different types of readings for wood, drywall, and other building materials. Then, you take pictures of the reading and write them down. Now, you have a report to provide to the insurance company that justifies the damage and work that you need to do.

Our commitment

So if you or anyone else you know has ever had to deal with a waterflood and you are looking for a proactive property manager to help guide you through the process of how we do water mitigation in-house – quickly, efficiently, and correctly – please think of Green Ocean Property Management: where you get more than a property manager, you get peace of mind.
