Maintaining a property is not a one-day job where you will just wipe the windows or mop the floors to avoid dirt accumulation. Landlords, property managers, and tenants should work hand in hand to make sure that the property has a good curb appeal and is maintained well.
In property maintenance, cleaning of roofs should be included too, in fact one of the most common problems during the winter season are ice build-ups and ice dams. Ice dams are a result of ice build-up on roof gutters. Read on to know more about how you can prevent those two from happening.
What happens when there is an ice build up?
Ice build-up happens if the gutters are filled with water due to rain in the winter or fall season. This freezes and what you’ll have is blocks of ice inside the gutters. Meanwhile, underneath the roofs are shingles that accumulate ice as well.
Ice build-ups and ice dams are horrible. It can loosen the shingles and can cause water damage once the ice melts. Once the water comes into the unit, it can also can a much more serious problem – molds.
These problems won’t happen if the landlords or property managers became proactive in maintaining them. So we suggest that roofs are cleaned at least twice a year.
