In today’s article, we present how we proactively save you money while doing good for the environment as well. Initially, we look through your property with Mass Save, which can do an energy audit of your home and help figure out where you can save on utility costs. But for now, we will focus on the simple alternative ways to save on utilities, more specifically on lights.
#1 Switch to LED lights.
With most properties, common area lights such as those in the hallways and basements are turned on almost 24/7. When you multiply this times 20, 30, or even more lights, it adds up to your energy bills very quickly. So, changing all the bulbs of your common areas to LED lights is really the basic easy stuff to start on.
#2 Set lights on timers.
The next thing that we can do is we can put a lot of areas on timers. For instance, laundry areas won’t be used all the time. You can set the light to stay on for 60 minutes and will go off by itself.
Furthermore, these alternative ways to save on utilities can also keep your property safe even when you are traveling. Setting a few interior lights on timers can make it look like you’re home and your property less likely a target for break-ins.
#3 Opt for motion lights.
For areas that you worry about – such as those in the darkest of corners – we can put motion lights. These lights stay off until someone comes into the area. You might want to have multiple sensors just because you don’t want any blank areas where someone can hide.
In conclusion, if you are able to change your lights to LED bulbs, set some areas on timers, and put other ones on motion detectors, you can save thousands of dollars a year on your property with electricity costs alone. More than that, you will be doing something good for the environment as well.
