Every single time Jarrett Lau, our founder, speaks to a new owner, he always goes through the whole spiel of why he created this business. In this article, we’re going to be explaining that very same thing because we want you to understand where we started.

Our founder’s background

As a kid, he is working in his dad’s insurance company and from there, he got into mortgages. As you know, insurance and mortgages are real estates heavy. His natural transition was to get into real estate. He got into it in the greater Boston market doing apartment rentals.

When he started working with a lot of landlords, people start saying, “Hey, when will you start helping me out a little bit of the maintenance or collecting a rent?” All these random things that he eventually ended up doing it. He honestly didn’t know what it means to be a property manager before. It isn’t easy but to do it well is a completely different thing.

He said, “Well, you have to have the nuances of being able to solve a problem quickly. You have to have the connections,” What you know is important but who you know is even more important. You also need to understand every single thing to be able to proactively prevent things in the future, from lawsuits to issues, to problems in maintenance.

Owning several properties, Jarrett saw the demand of resolving challenges that usually come along in managing a property. His goal is to minimize the headaches of landlords like him – that is the main reason why he created this business. At the time, his family has been in the business for 15+ years and he, together with his Green Ocean family has been growing and learning every single day. He thinks a lot of property managers are just company owners in general. They might have a profitable service and they just keep doing the same thing over and over again.

We don’t do this on a part-time basis, we’re in this for the long term. Property management isn’t one of those businesses where you make a ton of money on one deal. Just like insurance, we make up a very little bit amount regularly. That means that we have to keep our relationships with both our tenants and our landlords. We have to do a good job over the long term. For us, that is the most important thing – relationships.

Why did Jarrett create GOPM?

He created this business so that landlords such as himself, can have someone that they could count on. He wants someone that is always looking to improve what they do and for tenants in his property.

At the end of the day, properties are worth millions of dollars. It’s going to be an important aspect of your life. You don’t want someone who takes this on the last days ago. You want someone who will care enough to be able to treat it as if their own. That’s what we do. We work 7 days a week to make sure that everything is running smoothly.

If you or anyone else, you know, is looking for a proactive property manager that cares about you, your tenants, and your property as if it was their own, please think of Green Ocean Property Management, where you get more than a property manager, you get peace of mind.
