We at Green Ocean Property Management love technology. That’s why Google’s Nest Thermostat is the perfect addition to the properties we manage. Here’s how switching from old-school thermostats to smart ones can save more bucks.
All About Google’s Nest Thermostats

Smart thermostats, specifically Google’s Nest Thermostats, are becoming very commonplace in many people’s homes. But at the end of the day, many apartments don’t have this technology.
They use those old mercury thermostats which won’t read properly. It will more or less have to be turned on and off as the tenants want to adjust the heat. They would have to leave it off at the end of the day or turn it back on, which takes a while.
Tenants complain about that kind of stuff. Nowadays, they want technology. They want to be able to go on their phone through an app and have the temperature set before they get home. Or when they leave, they can adjust it.
Benefits of Google’s Nest Thermostat

A smart thermostat allows tenants to save more money. If they save more money, they are happier residents, right? They would also be willing to pay more for rent.
At the end of the day, we are able to actually put a little bit of an investment in and change this.
In addition, it’s actually really cool if we could get the tenants to share their logins—which we can require per our lease. What we can do is actually have a different app on our phone for all the units that we manage so we can check in.
Especially during school vacations or anytime when tenants might be gone or when it gets brutally cold, we have to make sure they have the heat on.
Or if we even have a vacant unit for whatever reason, we can actually log in and make sure that the temperature is at least above freezing.
All these protect not just the resident but also you, the homeowner.
